HYDRA SKYPOINT GPS 12 V TROLLING MOTOR - THRUST 65 lbs, SHAFT 54" (137 cm)
Hydra Skypoint GPS 65 is a bow motor with 65lb thrust, 12V power supply and a leg length of 54” (137cm). In other words, it is perfectly suitable for use as a sky anchor for smaller boats up to 5.2 m. If this 65lb is true, then Hydra is even 20% more powerful than the MotorGuide or Minn Kota 55lb 12V motors common in Estonia. There is no more precise information about the origin of the motor. According to the importer, it is assembled in a former MotorGuide factory. Many components are manufactured in China or elsewhere in Asia anyway, but this is the case for almost all products today. Technical data shows that the motor is quite similar to other 12V motors. It is recommended to use a lead or lithium-ion battery as a power source, with an optimal capacity in the range of 80-120Ah. Classic electrolyte starter batteries do not withstand this pain for very long. When extending the power cables, cables with a diameter of 10-16mm2 should be used, as up to 50A of current can flow there under heavy loads.
The motor is launched manually, by pressing down the locking pedal, like most bow motors. The depth regulator is a clamp-type lock located on the foot with a variable position. The motor remote control has a screen and runs on batteries (3 pcs. standard AAA batteries). In the case of low backlight, the batteries last up to 100 hours. Changing the batteries is easy, it is worth having them in the boat. With the help of the remote control, calibrations and settings (e.g. fixing the size of the boat) are also performed when the motor is first turned on, which ensure better operation of the motor. In addition to the remote control, it is also possible to use a foot pedal on the motor.
